A sound understanding and knowledge of the principles and practice provide the foundation that underpins the complex process of clinical reasoning and decision making in this discipline.
In this course participants will have the opportunity to enhance their clinical reasoning and decision-making skills in anaesthesia by refining their knowledge, and application of knowledge, in pharmacology, physiology and principles of clinical anaesthesia. This course will enable participants to make sound and effective decisions when planning and executing anaesthesia, and in managing complications.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Compare pharmacology and physiology of drugs commonly used for sedation and /or pre-anaesthetic medication
- Apply understanding of pharmacology and physiology of drugs commonly used for sedation and or pre-anaesthetic medication to argue indications and contraindications
- Outline your justification for choosing anaesthetic induction and maintenance protocols
- Integrate analgesics into the anaesthetic protocols
- Competently use inhalation anaesthetic equipment including maintenance, testing and patient appropriate setting up and use
- Outline principles and methods of peri-anaesthetic patient monitoring including the use of electronic equipment
- Instruct the appropriate use of electronic patient monitoring equipment
- Interpret and describe advantages, disadvantages and limitations of electronic monitoring equipment
- Interpret parameters displayed by electronic monitoring equipment

Pay as you learn
Choosing your DE course is a big commitment, so there’s no need to add further stress by paying your course up front. To pay as you learn, you will need a AU$1,000 deposit to secure your place, followed by 50% of the total course fee 10 days prior to course commencement date. We’ll arrange simple monthly direct debits from your credit card over 3 or 6 months.
