Canine Biomechanical Assessment TOL OnDemand (Vets)

Corticosteroids, surgery or euthanasia – is there another option?

Biomechanical dysfunction is disruption of the normal relationships and communications of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Many lameness cases are the end result of more subtle dysfunction patterns.

This course will expand your recognition of movement patterns via an improved canine gait analysis tool set and explore how your musculoskeletal palpatory skills can augment your recognition of biomechanical dysfunction. The impact of patient lifestyle factors on injury risk and recurrence is often overlooked. This course will enhance your management of patient lifestyle to reduce injury and support rehabilitation.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course, you will:

  • Describe parameters applicable in biomechanical gait assessment
  • Outline the process of biomechanical palpatory examination, for example assessment of tissue tone and texture
  • Interpret findings of biomechanical palpatory assessment to aid diagnosis of musculoskeletal dysfunction
  • Analyse existing lifestyle factors for injury risk and rehabilitation potential
  • Establish management plans that incorporate modification of lifestyle factors
