CVE
The mainstream prevention of heartworm is based on macrocyclic lactone (ML) administration. The recent re-emergence of D. immitis in dogs in Queensland, Australia and the identification of ML-resistant isolates in the USA poses an important question of whether ML-resistance has emerged in this parasite in Australia. In this webinar, Professor Jan Slapeta will update and explain what we know about the current situation of canine heartworm and outline available tools that are at our disposal when we are tracking both canine heartworm and putative ML-resistance in Australia. How reliable and feasible are traditional morphological tests or qPCR in this context? While ML-resistance is a fact in USA, the situation in Australia remains contested.
