Sandra Nguyen and Penny Thomas from the Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) in Sydney co-presented this intensive 1-day seminar on 30 August 2020 at the Pullman King George Square in Brisbane.
Sandra was heavily involved at The Ohio State University with clinical trials involving innovative new treatments for pets with cancer. She is particularly interested in how veterinary communication with pet owners impacts their grief. With many pet owners experiencing grief equal to that felt with the loss of a close human companion, empathy and awareness of your impact on this is important.
Sandra and Penny covered new modalities in oncology, through to palliative care and metastatic disease. This proceedings contains information to assist in updating your veterinary oncology knowledge and hone your practical skills, including the following topics-
• Pain, palliative and hospice care
• ‘Beyond Hopeless’- living with metastasis
• How to get the most from your pathology
• Comparative Oncology- what we do better/worse/the same
