Masterclass in Locking Plates & Fracture Fixation

This course is ideal for veterinarians interested in orthopaedic surgery who are eager to start using locking plates for fracture fixation or wish to enhance their skills to achieve better outcomes in fracture repair. 

Participants will learn the principles of fracture repair and the crucial role of decision-making in successful fracture fixation. The course will cover the treatment of common long bone fractures in small animals, providing anatomical specimens to help participants master surgical approaches to long bones. With a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, this course aims to elevate participants' orthopaedic surgery skills and improve patient outcomes. 

This workshop is delivered in partnership with Vet Co.

Program

Learning Outcomes

By successfully completing this workshop, you will be able to:

  • To describe the different ways bones can heal following traumatic fractures
  • To discuss the principles of locking plate fixation, including the advantages and disadvantages over tradition non-locking plates
  • To compare and contrast anatomical reconstruction and bridging fixation
  • To describe and perform the common surgical approaches to long bones
  • To apply a bone plate as a compression plate, neutralisation plate and bridging plate
