Principles of Soft Tissue Surgery Workshop

Building your surgical confidence: Principles of soft tissue surgery and surgical decision making.

This comprehensive course is tailored for recent graduates, veterinarians returning to practice after a break, or any veterinary professionals seeking a refresher on the fundamentals of soft tissue surgery. 


Participants will gain valuable insights into selecting the most appropriate suture materials and wound dressings, as well as choosing the right instrumentation for each surgical procedure. The course will cover techniques to build surgical confidence, emphasize the importance of a growth mindset, and provide strategies for managing challenging procedures and complications. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical guidance, this course aims to enhance participants' skills and confidence in soft tissue surgery. 

This workshop is delivered in partnership with Vet Co.

Program

Learning Outcomes

By successfully completing this course, you will:

  • Describe the role of the surgeon in wound healing
  • Discuss how various wound dressings interact with wounds at various stages of healing and describe how to select appropriate wound dressings
  • Describe optimal techniques in tissue handling and surgical wound closure.
  • Describe how to perform a thorough exploratory laparotomy
  • Describe the principles of electrosurgery and other haemostatic techniques

Practical workshops are an ideal way to build confidence and competence in your skills, as you put theory into practice.

Ideally balanced combination of theoretical and hands-on education, our workshops allow participants to obtain the most benefit possible through practical application of the skills being taught. Small group teaching with a high tutor to participant ratio will ensure that you benefit from individual attention from your highly regarded and experienced tutor/s. Nothing beats on-the-spot feedback as you learn a new procedure.
