There are numerous surgical options for managing hip dysplasia including juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (JPS), triple or double pelvic osteotomy (TPO/DPO), femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO), and total hip replacement (THR).
Even if the practitioner is not performing these surgeries, the decision for when these procedures may be recommended is difficult to navigate. JPS and TPO are time- and disease stage sensitive procedures that could be relatively less expensive options to mitigate a lifetime of hip OA management. This session will cover the main indications, patient selection/exclusion criteria, and ideal timing of each of these procedures.
Upon completion of this webinar, the participant should be able to:
- Understand the different surgical options for hip dysplasia including the main pros and cons of each procedure.
- Discuss with their clients ideal patient selection to make the best therapeutic decisions for each individual pet.
- Understand important post-operative considerations to optimize outcome post-surgery.
