Laser Assisted Turbinectomy WebinarLIVE!

Nasal breathing plays an important role in thermoregulation in the dog.

Obstructed intranasal airflow may contribute to exercise and heat intolerance and collapse in brachycephalic dogs far more than impaired pulmonary ventilation. Failure to address intranasal obstruction may explain the lack or minimal improvement after conventional multilevel surgery for brachycephalic syndrome in many cases.

This lecture introduces the concepts around laser assisted turbinectomy and Philip Moses discusses his experiences with this technique.

Laser Assisted Turbinectomy WebinarLIVE!

Laser Assisted Turbinectomy WebinarLIVE!
With the increasing use of computed tomography we are diagnosing further issues with brachycephalic dogs. An issue we are seeing with increasing regularity is obstructive nasal turbinates. Exaggerated selective breeding for a short head conformation in brachycephalic dogs has unfortunately reduced the size of the nasal cavities so much that intranasal structures are grossly malformed and grow aberrantly into the air-conducting spaces. This results in obstruction of the intranasal airways in many brachycephalic dogs.

Obstructed intranasal airflow may contribute to exercise and heat intolerance and collapse in brachycephalic dogs far more than impaired pulmonary ventilation.
