Wednesday, 30 September 2026

Speaker/s: Claire Sharp

Online

EmergencyLIVE!

Description

Cats in heart failure provide a variety of challenges from initial diagnosis when clinical signs are non-specific or the cat is in distress, to treatment, where options are not as straightforward in dogs. This webinar will cover how we can use diagnostic tools like physical examination, point-of-care ultrasound, and NT-proBNP to confidently diagnose cats in heart failure, as well as treatment approaches. Oxygen and frusemide are mainstays, but with lower frusemide doses than in dogs. Other considerations include thoracocentesis for pleural effusion, the need for thromboprophylaxis, and when to use pimobendan. By the end of this webinar, you’ll feel more confident helping our feline friends in heart failure.

The Dark Side of Fluid Therapy EmergencyLIVE!

Wednesday, 28 October 2026

Speaker/s: Courtney Reddrop

Online

EmergencyLIVE!

Description

The fluids we give our patients can be considered a benign substance and something we often take for granted. However, when given to a patient without a plan, it can have severe consequences on coagulation, cardiovascular system, organ function and a patient’s overall survival. Fluid therapy has played its part in pushing patients into congestive heart failure, causing organ dysfunction through generalized oedema, and contributed to the riddle of the lethal triad. This presentation with Dr Courtney Reddrop will debunk ‘shock rates’, make you think thrice about keeping patients in hospital for 48 hours on twice maintenance for a toxicity, and provide a plan on reassessing patients following formulating a rehydration plan.
